It thoughtfully combines hands-on participation in India’s immunization initiatives with meaningful engagement with local Rotarians and community projects, delivering a purposeful and deeply rewarding experience.
Purpose of Participation:
A Lifetime Humanitarian Experience Combined with Cultural Exploration Participants will gain first-hand exposure to the initiatives of Rotary International in its ongoing mission to eradicate polio since 1978, in collaboration with global partners such as WHO and UNICEF. Our Indian hosts warmly welcome you to be part of a thoughtfully designed itinerary that integrates: Participation in routine Polio Immunization drives Engagement in Rotary-led community service projects Involvement in the “Keep India Polio Free” campaign During the visit, participants will take part in official programs, including Polio Rally Day, door-to-door awareness campaigns, and visits to Rotary Club and Rotary Foundation projects.
Eligibility for Participation
Rotarians from any Rotary District are welcome to participate in this initiative. Family members and friends accompanying participants are also encouraged to join and support the cause. This inclusive approach strengthens community engagement and enhances the overall impact of the program.
Program Highlights
1) Polio Awareness Rally
Initiative aimed at promoting the eradication of polio through widespread public awareness and community engagement. It brings together volunteers, healthcare professionals, and citizens to emphasize the importance of timely immunization. The rally highlights the life-saving impact of the oral polio vaccine and encourages every family to participate in immunization drives. Through collective efforts, it reinforces the commitment to a polio-free future. Such initiatives reflect strong social responsibility and the power of united action in safeguarding public health.

- Conducted ONE DAY PRIOR to the vaccination drive
- Participation of health workers, Nurses, UNICEF & WHO representatives, School children, Community members, Rotarians and Volunteers.
- Focus on Door-To-Door Outreach in slums and high-risk areas
Key Activities: Polio Awareness Rally
- Distribution of informational flyers
- Public awareness announcements
- Motivating parents to bring children for Vaccination Centers
- Public engagement through music, cultural participation and community interaction.
- Objective: Maximize awareness and community participation
2) Polio Immunization Program
Polio is a highly infectious disease that can lead to irreversible paralysis. While there is no cure, it can be effectively prevented through vaccination. Participants will:
- Support immunization efforts at designated booths operated by government health authorities Work
- Alongside Auxiliary Nurse Midwives, healthcare workers and Rotary volunteers
- Administer oral polio vaccines (as non-medical volunteers under supervision)
- Contribute directly to protecting children in high-risk communities
Key Points: Polio Immunization Program
Team Composition (per team):
- 4-5 Volunteers
- 4 Healthcare Workers (Nurse, Nurse Assistant, ASHA Anganwadi worker)
- 1-2 Rotarians / Volunteers
Materials Provided:
- Appx. 8 Polio vaccine vials (approx. 150 children Coverage)
- Gifts (Toffee/chocolates/whistles/balls/polio flags/masks) sponsored by Rotary Clubs
Vaccination Process:
- Each Volunteer administers polio drops
- Approx. 35 Children per volunteer
- Duration: 3–4 hours per booth
- Rotational Roles: Vaccination & Gift distribution
- Ensures equal participation and efficiency
Operational Details:
- Booth Timings: 9 AM – 1:00 PM
- Location: High-risk Rural areas and villages (Population 2500+)
- Transportation: AC Vehicle per team for logistics support

Travellama India - Logistics Coordinator
Travellama India offers a specialized Polio Immunization Tour for international Rotarians, combining humanitarian service with cultural exploration. Participants actively support immunization drives alongside local healthcare teams and communities. The program highlights India’s large-scale public health efforts in collaboration with global partners. The itinerary also includes visits to key tourist destinations for a balanced experience. Overall, the tour fosters global fellowship while contributing to the mission of a polio-free India.

B) Overseas medical and travel insurance is strongly recommended - All participants to ensure comprehensive coverage against unforeseen medical emergencies, travel disruptions, and other unexpected situations during the tour.
